On July 18th-20th 2017, the 3rd National Human Resources for Health Conference will take place in Abuja, Nigeria. This year’s theme is “Strengthening human resources for health towards revitalisation of PHC’s in Nigeria”.

The conference aims to raise the profile of the issues around human resources for health and mobilise investment. It will also appraise Nigeria’s preparedness to supply a health workforce for PHCs by 2019 and review Nigeria’s commitments from the third Global HRH Forum in Recife, Brazil.

In previous years, the conference was organised by the World Health Organisation and the US Centres for Diseases Control (CDC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, and has been attended by national, state, and local government representatives, health governing bodies, universities and the media. This year, the Women for Health programme is supporting the Ministry of Health in hosting the event.

At the 2017 conference, the Women for Health programme will hold several technical sessions to share learning from the programme. Topics covered will include: empowering young women from rural areas to become health workers and supporting health training institutions to regain, maintain and upgrade their accreditation status.

In addition to our technical sessions, a Women for Health exhibition stand will be located at the conference center displaying a range of publications produced by the programme. The Women for Health films, 'Living the Dream to Become a Midwife' and 'Seeds of Change' will be playing during breaks in the conference.
